It’s not quite Ron Artest to Metta World Peace, but Maria Sharapova is planning to change her name to Maria Sugarpova for the duration of the U.S. Open. The Russian tennis star reportedly invested a half a million dollars in the candy company which features brightly colored sweets with flavors like Smitten Sour, Quirky and Sporty. Forbes recently named Sharapova the highest-earning female athlete, earning $29 million last year from prize money, endorsements and appearance fees. Here is a look at the soon-to-be-former Ms. Sharapova from her appearance in the 2006 SI Swimsuit issue, on the tennis court and walking the red carpet.

Candy. She's investing in candy.

She made $29 million last year, which I know just doesn't go as far as it used to, alas, but she could do anything with that money. She could actually, you know, do something *good* in the world. But instead she's investing in rotting kids' teeth.

Who's she getting those endorsements from? Dentists?

If I was built like Maria, I might consider changing my name to Bob SugarJackson ...
